Missy Wier serves as the Managing Director for Parven Pomper Strategies. In addition to running the day-to-day operations of the firm, Wier brings valuable government, policy and political experience to PPS. Wier joined PPS upon its founding in 2006. She handles a variety of government relations issues for our clients, but has a primary expertise in health care policy. While working at PPS, she has successfully lobbied many health policy issues in both the House and the Senate. Prior to joining PPS, Wier worked in the office of Senator Tom Carper (D-DE) from 2002-2006 where she worked closely with the Chief of Staff to oversee the policy, politics, messaging, and office as a whole for the Senator. In this capacity, she worked regularly with all staff, both DC and state, on behalf of the Chief of Staff, to manage all that went on in the Senator’s office. Melissa Wier was a part of all high level meetings and involved in many decision processes within the office, ranging from policy planning to legislative oversight to state and local concerns. In addition to working directly with staff, Wier also worked closely with outside organizations, friends of the Senator, and local constituents, dealing with their specific requests. She also worked with moderate democratic Chiefs of Staff, assisting in agenda setting and consensus building among senate offices. She worked closely with centrist think tanks, serving as a liaison between them and moderate democratic Chiefs of Staff in the senate. In addition to this, Wier also ran the internship program, where she interviewed, hired, and managed all interns for Senator Carper. Of the interns that Missy Wier hired during her time in the Senator’s office, four have gone on to be hired full time by the office and currently serve on the Senator’s staff. In addition to her years in the U.S. Senate, Wier has also had solid political experience. She has worked on a number of Democratic political campaigns and most recently worked on Senator Carper’s 2006 re-election campaign. Wier, a native of Delaware, graduated cum laude from the George Washington University, and is currently attending the George Washington University in the evenings for her master’s degree in Legislative Affairs.
