Drew E. Minkiewicz is an Associate in the firm’s Government Relations and Public Policy Practice Group. Mr. Minkiewicz specializes in representing commercial fishing interests and maritime organizations and providing counsel regarding regulatory issues. His practice also includes advising clients on legislative initiatives, civil enforcement matters, and regulatory strategies. Mr. Minkiewicz served as Senior Counsel and Staff Director of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation’s Oceans, Atmosphere, Fisheries, and Coast Guard Subcommittee under Subcommittee Chair Senator Olympia Snowe (R-ME) and under Senators John McCain (R-AZ) and Ted Stevens (R-AK) during their respective full Committee Chairmanships. As a senior policy advisor, he proposed and executed the Subcommittee’s legislative agenda, drafted legislation (including three Coast Guard reauthorizations), requested and secured appropriation requests, and prepared Committee members for legislative hearings. He moved all fishery and Coast Guard-related legislation through the Senate, from introduction to final passage, and served as principal staff person in passing the first major revision of the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act in ten years.
