Peter Buck, the billionaire cofounder of Subway, one of the largest restaurant chains in the world, has died at 90 years old. Buck died on November 18 2021, according to a statement from the company.Buck left his 50% stake in the chain to the Peter and Carmen Lucia Buck Foundation, according to an announcement by the charity in February 2023. Buck, a nuclear physicist turned entrepreneur, founded the organization in 1999. Buck’s wife, Carmen Lucia Passagem, died in 2003. Fronted family friend Fred DeLuca $1,000 to open Pete's Super Submarines 1965. Shop tanked; DeLuca opened a second outlet to give illusion of success. Sold first franchise 1974. Today there are 29,835 Subways across the globe; company is the fourth-largest fast food concern in the world, with sales exceeding $11 billion in 2007. Became famous through infamous commercials boasting that Jared lost 245 pounds eating only Subway sandwiches. Subway now offered in 87 countries.
