Shirley Fleischer

Daniel Fisher learned about his family’s jewelry business from the ground up – he began sweeping the office at the tender age of five. In 1967, when his father retired, he and his late brother, Ronald, took ownership of Fisher Brothers Manufacturing Jewelers, located in the heart of Manhattan. While running the business, Mr. Fisher earned a B.S. in business management from Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus. He credits this acquired knowledge with helping him manage his company - a highly successful purveyor of jewelry. Long Island University has become an educational tradition for Mr. Fisher’s family. His father-in-law, Leonard Lane, graduated from the Brooklyn Campus, and both his children graduated from the C.W. Post Campus. His son, Jeffrey, earned a B.A. in political science in 1998, and his daughter, Sharon, earned a M.A. in speech-language pathology in 2002. Upon their daughter’s graduation, Mr. Fisher and his wife, Arlene, gave a generous donation to C.W. Post to establish the Fisher Family Wing at the J.M. Ladge Speech and Hearing Center. The Wing provides students in the Speech-Language Program with access to a clinical education facility that utilizes the very latest technology. Mr. Fisher retired from his business in 2004. For many years, he has been involved in numerous causes and has traveled the world. He has been a passionate supporter of Israel. Mr. Fisher has served on the National Council of American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) and is a trustee of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy. He has traveled to Israel many times and has met with top Israeli government officials on various occasions. A member of Temple Beth Sholom in Roslyn Heights, N.Y., he has been chairman of its day camp committee for the past 15 years, and in 2002-2003, he served as the synagogue’s president. For their caring and generosity, the Fishers have received many honors. In 1992, Mr. Fisher was honored by Israel Bonds. He received the Jewish Theological Seminary’s Eternal Light Award in 1997 and the Chairman’s Award from the United Jewish Appeal (UJA) in 2005. The couple has been married for 36 years. They reside on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.
