A nuclear engineer and former Navy pilot, Steve was president of SB Consultants until his retirement in 1999. He received an AB from Cornell and an MBA from the University of Houston and pursued graduate studies in Nuclear Engineering at the University of Cincinnati. Passionately committed to strengthening the Jewish community and Reform Judaism, Steve has devoted a lifetime to working on behalf of WUPJ. He served as Secretary of WUPJ’s Executive Board, member of its Management Committee, Treasurer of the NAC (now the North American Advisory Board), co-chair of the Yad B’Yad South American Task Force and continues to offer his wise counsel as a member of the Executive Board and Audit Committee. Steve is Vice-Chair of the Board of Governors of Ben-Gurion University and has served on its American Associates board as well as on the boards of the Washington Institute, Congregation Beth Israel, Men of Reform Judaism (previously NFTB), the URJ and the Houston Jewish Federation, among many others. In 2011 the Breslauer family dedicated the WUPJ Sandy Breslauer Beit Simcha Center for Progressive Judaism in Minsk, Belarus, named in memory of Sandy Breslauer (z”l), Steve’s wife of 55 years, whose passion and commitment were instrumental in the establishment of the center. Steve is the father of David (Elizabeth) Breslauer, Jeanne Breslauer (z”l) and Roberta Herman (Michael) Dietrich. He has five grandchildren and one great-grandson.
