Joyce Wright is an insurance executive who has received several awards for accomplishments in the global insurance industry. She currently serves as president of the Wright Company in San Antonio, Texas. Wright has worked for several global companies including Zurich Financial Services, AIG, USAA and the insurance consulting arm of KPMG. Wright's long record of success includes managing global claims operations in the U.S., London, Sydney and Zurich. During her international tenure, Wright guided several insurance mergers, incorporating substantial expense savings and strategies into the newly merged corporations. Throughout her career, Wright has succeeded by designing and leading innovative claims organizations to increasing operating efficiencies that resulted in hundreds of millions of dollars in bottom line savings. Wright is well-known and recognized internationally as an expert in developing claims programs and for her expertise in turnaround management in troubled companies. Wright was named in "People to Watch in 2000" (January 2000) by Best Review magazine. She is one of the founding editors of International Advantage magazine and was named in "100 Leading Women in Insurance" (October 2000) by Business Insurance magazine. She received the 2006 Distinguished Alumna award from University of Maryland University College. She is also very charitable and has worked with children's shelters and Special Olympics in every country she has lived, most recently with a children's shelter in Peru. Wright received her graduate degree in international business and undergraduate degree in business from UMUC. To show her appreciation for her alma mater, she endowed a scholarship at UMUC to buy books for students in the international business school. Wright is also a triathlete and mountain climber.
