Susan Gary is an Orlando J. and Marian H. Hollis Professor at the University of Oregon School of Law, with teaching and research interests that include nonprofit organizations, trusts and estates, and estate planning. She was involved in the establishment of the law school's Probate Mediation Clinic and its Nonprofit Clinic, and serves as faculty supervisor of the Nonprofit Clinic. Before entering academia, Gary practiced law with the Department of Health, Education and Welfare in New York; Mayer, Brown & Platt in Chicago; and DeBandt, van Hecke & Lagae in Brussels. She received her bachelor's degree from Yale University and her law degree from Columbia University. Gary is an academic fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. She served as the reporter for the Model Protection of Charitable Assets Act and the Uniform Prudent Management of Institutional Funds Act, both projects of the Uniform Law Commission. She has served as an advisory board member for the NYU National Center on Philanthropy and the Law, and holds or has held leadership positions in the Association of American Law Schools; the Real Property, Trust and Estate Section of the American Bar Association; and the Oregon State Bar.
