Jonathan Paris

Jonathan Paris is a Senior Advisor to The Chertoff Group where he shares his expertise across a wide range of research interests that include the Middle East, South Asia, Europe, transatlantic relations, international security, and counterterrorism. Since 2003, he has been consulting for the U.S. government. His recent publications include two monographs, Prospects for Pakistan (2010) and Prospects for Iran (2011) (see www.li.com under publications). Prior to moving to London in 2001, Mr. Paris was a Middle East Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York from 1995 to 2000. He co-edited the first book on Indonesia's democratic transition, The Politics of Post-Suharto Indonesia (Brookings 1999) and taught at Yale University from 1994 to 1997. Before turning to public policy, Mr. Paris had a 15-year career as an international lawyer and investment banker in New York and Singapore at Milbank Tweed Hadley and McCloy, the Singapore office of Coudert Brothers from 1978 to 1983, and with Salomon Brothers and European Investors, Inc. from 1984 to 1992. In London, he was Vice President of Merrill Lynch Investment Bank covering the GCC from 2001 to 2003. Mr. Paris is a graduate of Yale University and Stanford Law School and a native of Cleveland, Ohio. He was a Senior Associate Member of St. Antony's College, Oxford from 2004 to 2005. He is currently a Senior Fellow with the South Asia Center of the Atlantic Council, an Associate Fellow at the International Centre for the Study of Radicalization (ICSR) at King's College London and a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Buckingham Centre for Security and Intelligence Studies in the UK.
