James (Jim) Micsan is a Senior Advisor to The Chertoff Group. He is a retired Senior Executive Operations Officer with 30 years of experience in the Central Intelligence Agency's National Clandestine Service (NCS). Mr. Micsan has served both domestically and abroad, with numerous field assigments in Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and South Asia. Mr. Micsan began his career as an Operations Officer in the National Clandestine Service in 1981. From 1981 to 2011, he held various Senior Executive positions within the NCS, most recently holding the position of Division Chief. He has extensive knowledge of multiple foreign environments with a special emphasis on counterterrorism, intelligence support to military forces, cybersecurity, counterintelligence, and counter-narcotics. Along with this subject matter expertise, he has experience in risk assessment, risk management, and continuity of operations. Mr. Micsan received his B.A. in Political Science from The George Washington University, where he was in the Georgetown Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC). He served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1981 to 1988. He has received numerous awards including the Donovan Award for Excellence, the George H.W. Bush Award for Excellence in Counterterrorism, and multiple performance awards and meritorious unit citations.
