Joel Barkin

Joel Barkin brings more than 14 years of communications strategy, media relations, political organizing and public policy experience to The Roffe Group. As Communications Director for The Roffe Group, Joel provides strategic communications and government affairs support to the firm’s broad spectrum of clients. Prior to joining the firm, Joel most recently held the position of Deputy Secretary of State at the New York Department of State where he was the chief communications strategist and spokesman for the Secretary of State. While at the Department of State, Joel worked on issues related to local governments, real estate, renewable energy and business development. Before joining the Department of State, Joel served as Managing Director of the Progressive States Network, a national organization that works with state legislators, labor groups, foundations and businesses to advance state initiatives around the county. Joel also served as Communications Director to current New York State Senator Adriano Espaillat. Prior to moving to New York, Joel spent several years serving as the Communications Director and Senior Advisor to U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders in Washington, D.C., and also worked in the Communications Department of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).
