Lawrence Hess, born 1940, first became interested in war and peace issues – and politics in general – as the Vietnam War heated up in 1964-5, and he has been a stalwart, anti-war progressive ever since. In the 1960’s Hess was active in the Young Democrats and the ACLU. Both he and his wife Suzanne have been active supporters of the San Diego Peace Resource Center since its inception in 1980, and for several years, he was on the board of directors. Hess is currently on the board of directors of Progressive Majority, and he heads Lehbros Limited, a real estate management firm that owns and operates apartment communities. He and Suzanne have a married daughter who is a librarian, an unmarried son who is an artist, and an infant grandchild. They married in 1969 and have lived in San Diego since 1975.
