Jason Marshall

Jason Marshall is the chief Deputy Director of California’s Department of Conservation (DOC). He previously held the position of Deputy Director of Recycling at CalRecycle, where he oversaw implementation of California's Beverage Container Recycling Program. Prior to his work at CalRecycle, Jason worked for DOC for 18 years, serving most recently as Deputy Director for Policy. Jason spent 11 years as DOC’s Legislative Director, heading up the Office of Governmental and Environmental Relations. As DOC's principal negotiator for policy matters, he led or played a significant role in efforts to increase the amount paid to consumers for recycling; to establish California’s first incentive program for plugging orphaned oil and gas wells; to improve enforcement tools for the California Land Conservation (Williamson) Act and for the Beverage Container Recycling and Litter Reduction Program; to strengthen California’s mine reclamation law for both active and abandoned mines; and to establish a processing fee structure that rewards beverage manufacturers for higher recycling rates. Jason is a graduate of Claremont McKenna College in Claremont, Calif. He is also a licensed paramedic working for a local emergency responder in Sacramento. Jason, his wife and their two daughters reside in Sacramento.
