Akinari Horii

Drawing on a career spanning three decades in central banking, Akinari advises clients of Promontory Financial Group Global Services-Japan on risk management and regulatory issues that affect multinational financial services companies. Experience Prior to joining Promontory, Akinari worked for more than three decades for the Bank of Japan, most recently as Assistant Governor. During his four years in that post, Akinari was responsible for the central bank’s international activities. He represented the central bank at deputies’ meetings of the Group of Seven and Group of Twenty nations and at working group of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. He also served on the Bank for International Settlements’ Committee on Global Financial Systems and on the Financial Stability Board. In addition, he was chairman of the Executives’ Meeting of East Asian and Pacific Central Banks’ working group on financial markets and the BIS/EMEAP Foreign Exchange Forum. Akinari also briefed the Bank of Japan’s policy board on the global economy and financial markets at its monetary policy meetings. Before his appointment as Assistant Governor, Akinari worked at the Bank of Japan for three decades, performing research on both global and Japanese economies. He published a number of papers under the auspices of the Bank for International Settlements, the International Monetary Fund and the Bank of Japan. Outside of the central bank, he has also worked at the BIS in Basel, Switzerland, and he has served for Japan’s Ministry of Finance and the Institute for International Policy Studies in Tokyo.
