Peggy Brookins serves as director and mathematics instructor at the Engineering and Mathematics Institute of Technology at Forest High School in Ocala, Florida and has been a National Board Certified Teacher in Adult and Young Adolescent Mathematics since 2004. She is a Marion County School Board beginning teacher trainer, a Marion Education Association local site coordinator and a Marion County school professional development instructor for Foundations of Effective Teaching, Thinking Math 1, 2, 3 and Thinking Math Middle School: The Journey to Algebra. She is also a national trainer of the American Federation of Teachers Thinking Mathematics 1, 2, 3 and serves as an instructor, contributor and pilot trainer of Education Research and Development (ER&D) Thinking Mathematics for middle school teachers in Los Angeles, California. Brookins has served on numerous committees and advisory councils at the local, county and state level, including the Hill Day, Washington, D.C. National Board for Professional Teaching Standards; the Conference Board of Mathematical Sciences Ad Hoc Committee on Teachers as Professionals; and the Commission for Accreditation of Educator Preparation. She is currently chairman of the Audit Committee for the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards. Brookins has published on teaching middle school mathematics and has received a number of awards, including the Lead Mentor Florida Regional Chairman’s and Entrepreneurship Awards in 2011. She presented for National Digital Learning Day in 2012, the 2011 AFT TEACH Conference, the Learning First Alliance on the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in 2010 and the National Governors Association on the CCSS in 2009. Brookins holds a Bachelor’s degree in K-12 mathematics certification from the University of Florida.
