Ethel Strong Allen

Ms. Allen was the widow of Herbert Allen Sr., a partner of the Allen & Company investment firm. Ms. Allen, who died last year at age 80, left three paintings by the Impressionist painters Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro, and Alfred Sisley to the Hackley School to be auctioned. The paintings were sold by Christie’s auction house in November 2012 for a total of $49.3-million. School officials said they are working with Ms. Allen’s family to decide where to direct the money. Her husband, who died in 1997, was a Hackley trustee for 37 years.
