Dr. Long Nguyen is the Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Pragmatics, Inc. He established Pragmatics in 1985; prior to that, Dr. Nguyen had a distinguished academic career teaching computer science at Georgetown University, and other universities. He earned his undergraduate degree in physics at North Carolina State University; his master’s degree, also in physics, at the University of Virginia; and his doctorate in computer science at Iowa State University. He is a past member of George Mason University’s (GMU's) Board of Visitors and the Board of Trustees of the Academy for Government Accountability. He established relief funds for Haiti earthquake, Hurricane Katrina, and 9/11 victims, and contributed substantially to the Smithsonian Vietnamese American Heritage Endowment. He also served as a member of the Transition Committee for Virginia’s Governor-Elect in 2005. He has created endowments at both GMU and Iowa State University in honor of his past academic advisors. In 2007, he established the Lanh and Oanh Nguyen (his parents) Endowed Chair in Software Engineering at Iowa State University. In 2009, Dr. Nguyen made a donation to GMU to underscore his commitment to the University, education, and northern Virginia.
