Salman Khan

Salman "Sal" Khan was born in New Orleans to a father from Bangladesh and a mother from India. Raised by his mother in New Orleans, Khan attended public school in New Orleans, where he excelled in math, joining his school's mathletes team. Khan went on to earn degrees in mathematics, electrical engineering and computer science from MIT and an MBA from Harvard Business School. Before quitting to run the Khan Academy full-time, Khan was a hedge fund analyst. His account - YouTube.com/KhanAcademy - became a hit: As of Tuesday, when he spoke before more than 1,000 people at Cal Poly Pomona, he has more than 435,000 subscribers on YouTube and his videos have been watched almost 205 million times. In 2009, he realized his hobby could - and should - be his life's calling. He quit his job and devoted himself to the Khan Academy, a not-for-profit company. He was previously associated with Connective Capital Management LLC, Khan Capital Management, and Wohl Capital Management. Khan's wife is a physician. They have two children and live in Mountain View.
