Andrés Nevárez

Andrés R. Nevares was born in 1944, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where he completed his grade school and then attended Mercersburg Academy in Pennsylvania for high school, Syracuse University for College and University of Denver for Law School. He is a member of the Federal and local Bar of Puerto Rico and of Colorado and has lectured extensively regarding construction and surety matters. Since 1969 he has complemented the private practice of law, specializing in Construction, Surety, Corporate Law, Commercial Contracts, Real Estate Development, Estates and Mergers and Acquisitions, with community, environmental, business and sports activities. He co-chairs the Puerto Rico American Foundation which supports traditional family values and is very concerned with the improvement of education. As President of the Puerto Rico Sailing Federation (1980-1988) he was influential in establishing in Puerto Rico a very successful children’s sailing program. He was Commodore of Club Náutico de San Juan during 1993-1994. He believes that education and sports are paramount in solving social, economic and environmental problems. Mr. Nevares’ involvement in business has been diverse. In agriculture he has been involved in the dairy, sugar and the plant nursery business. During 14 years he was involved in commercial banking as board member of Roig Commercial Bank. He is involved in real estate development as a principal in Starlight Development Group, Inc. He was Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors (1993-1995) of Navieras de Puerto Rico. He presently serves on several boards. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the Republican Party of Puerto Rico and chairs the Advisory Committee. Mr. Nevares is fully bilingual and bicultural (U.S. and Latin America) and has traveled extensively in Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean on business and pleasure. Mr. Nevares has been married since 1967 to the former Angie Cabrer Roig and they have two children and five grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Nevares live most of the time in Puerto Rico but have a home in Colorado.
