Laurence Bambino is co-head of the firm’s Global Tax Group and practices in a variety of areas of tax law, with emphasis on the tax treatment (domestic and international) of corporate restructurings, spin-offs, dispositions and acquisitions and transactions involving cross-border tax planning and tax rulings. In advising on spin-offs, mergers and similar transactions, he has worked in recent years with a variety of U.S. corporations, such as Corning, Deere, Dow Chemical, Quest Diagnostics and SunGard and with various financial institutions, such as Bank of America, Merrill Lynch, Citigroup, Credit Suisse First Boston and Morgan Stanley. He has advised on transactions involving acquisitions, dispositions, privatizations and restructurings by European companies, such as Cadbury, Danone, Deutsche Bahn, Novartis, Schneider Electric, Siemens and Vivendi. Mr. Bambino joined Shearman & Sterling in September 1982, became a partner in January 1991, and has spent his entire legal career with the Tax Group.
