John Robertson is vice president and CFO of the American Petroleum Institute. Mr. Robertson joined API in September 2007. Mr. Robertson directs the administrative functions of API (Financial Operations, Information Technology, Human Resources and Facilities), including all financial aspects of API’s budget. He also is the treasurer of the American Petroleum Institute Political Action Committee. Mr. Robertson graduated with honors from Cedarville University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and also holds a juris doctor from George Mason University School of Law. He began his career with KPMG where he spent twelve years as an auditor serving clients in the financial services and not-for-profit industries. He worked in KPMG’s offices in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; Moscow, Russia; Baku, Azerbaijan; and Washington, D.C. During his time at KPMG, he was a national instructor for continuing professional education and was a professor of accounting at the Moscow State Linguistic University in Russia. Prior to joining API, Mr. Robertson was the director of Finance and Operations for National Geographic’s International Publications division where he was responsible for the financial management of the licenses for the nearly 50 local language editions of National Geographic’s magazines and hundreds of books published and distributed around the world. Mr. Robertson is a licensed CPA in the District of Columbia and is also a member of the Virginia State Bar. He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, Greater Washington Society of CPAs and the American and Virginia Bar Associations. He serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Home Care Partners, a metropolitan Washington agency enabling vulnerable people to remain in their own homes in comfort, safety, and dignity.
