The national organization of Moms for Liberty (MFL), is a product of the efforts of Bridget Ziegler of Sarasota, FL and two former school board members - Tina Descovich, from Brevard County and Tiffany Justice, from Indian River County - in founding Moms for Liberty in December, 2020. Ms. Descovitch and Ms. Justice are currently members of the Executive Board of MFL. Ms. Ziegler’s name was removed from the roster of directors in February, 2021, and is not mentioned in current MFL media. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the efforts of the group were focused on fighting masking, quarantining, and vaccinating protocols being implemented at schools as the result of COVID-19 case outbreaks. The group now focuses on changing what students are taught in school and removing anything it thinks is "inappropriate" by banning materials. The central focus is on educational curricula that are LGBTQ groups and/or racially inclusive. It has called "Black Lives Matter at School" week a "Marxist attack on the family." Main tactics include book banning and supporting hard right-wing electoral candidates.
