Our story The Centre for Health Economics is the leading independent group of economists researching health, health care and health policy in Australia. Since its foundation in 1990 as the Health Economics Unit within the National Centre for Health Economics and Program Evaluation, it has made significant contributions to public debate and policy development in the Australian health sector. After a period at the Clayton campus, in 2019 the Centre moved to its current home at the Caulfield campus of the Monash Business School, and has consolidated itself as one of the world's leading research groups in the economics of health. World-class research Supported by external funding from the NHMRC and ARC as well as through international funding agencies such as the Wellcome Trust, national and state government, and other competitive grants and contracts, the CHE has had a number of major accomplishments including: Pioneering work on the measurement of social values, including the development of the Assessment of Quality of Life instrument Developing and applying research methods for priority setting in health care Significant contributions to public policy in the areas of hospital funding and health insurance Shaping public policy and practice of economic evaluation of health services through work with the Australian Pharmaceutical Benefits and Medical Services Advisory Committees Important contributions to understanding of health inequality and the socioeconomic determinants and dynamics of health from childhood.
