Child sexologist; accused of pedophilia
In 2023, Republicans in the Indiana state legislature voted to strip all state funding for the Kinsey Institute, which was founded in 1947 by Dr. Alfred Kinsey as the Institute for Sex Research. In 2024, Indiana University’s trustees, amid calls to sever ties with the institute, approved a plan to continue its relationship with the institute. The university’s president, Pamela Whitten, defended the institute as “a beacon of intellectual inquiry.” Justin Garcia, the institute’s executive director, said in an interview that none of its roughly $3 million annual operating budget, down to the electric bill, is paid for with state funds.
