About Us MiHIN is a public and private nonprofit created for the purpose of coordinating and building the bridges between the healthcare providers throughout the state. From hospitals to pharmacies, MiHIN is creating the technology and resource needed to make sure that the electronic health records of Michigan citizens are available for all that provide care. This sharing of patient information between legally authorized healthcare providers is known as a Health Information Exchange. The information is stored and transmitted securely. MiHIN represents a growing network of public and private organizations working to overcome data sharing barriers, reduce costs, and ultimately advance the health of Michigan’s population. Our History MiHIN began in December 2010 to administer the technical and business operations of Michigan’s State Health Information Exchange Cooperative Agreement program. It was created by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology. MiHIN is tasked with ensuring effective technology and data models are in place for the electronic exchange of health information. It is equally tasked with the creation of a shared governance model that provides the legal framework and policy infrastructure to safeguard and standardize the transfer of health information. MiHIN’s goal is to streamline the flow of healthcare information, making it so patients are never far from their personal medical records. Our Team MiHIN provides a stimulating, high-energy environment for a wide variety of talented people who are making a positive improvement in healthcare. We’re working to build a healthier future for the state of Michigan, together.
