VALUE Institute Overview REGISTRATION IS OPEN FOR 2019-2020 VALUE INSTITUTE! The VALUE Institute enables any higher education institution, department, program, state, consortium or provider to utilize the VALUE rubrics approach to assessment by collecting and uploading samples of student work to a digital repository and have the work scored by certified VALUE Institute faculty and other educator scorers for external validation of institutional learning assessment. The evidence of learning includes the ability to examine learning achievement across student population groups, e.g. first generation, gender, racial and ethnic groups, year in school, etc., as well as reveal the nationwide landscape of learning achievement across Essential Learning Outcomes encompassed in the Degree Qualifications Profile and AAC&U’s LEAP Initiative. The VALUE Institute direct assessment of learning results will help fill an absence of systematic information on the quality of student learning in higher education. AAC&U worked to develop and launch the VALUE Institute in cooperation with multiple colleagues who joined in recognizing the importance of focusing on student and faculty work - in particular: hundreds of individual educators across hundreds of campuses, the State Higher Education Executive Officers association’s (SHEEO) Multi-State Collaborative to Advance Quality Student Learning (MSC) – now the Multi-State Consortium, the Great Lakes Colleges Association, the Minnesota Collaborative, and Indiana University’s Center for Postsecondary Research. In addition, several higher education funders have been generous in supporting the need for evidence of quality student learning - the U.S. Department of Education, and the State Farm, Gates, Spencer, Sherman Fairchild, and Lumina Foundations. Interest in VALUE Institute Participation Are you interested? The VALUE Institute is now collecting interest and registration inquires. AAC&U established the VALUE Institute as a continuing resource for higher education programs, states and institutions to document, report, and use learning outcomes evidence to improve student success in college. Higher education organizations are invited to participate in the VALUE Institute by collecting samples of student work (artifacts and assignments), transferring the artifacts and assignments for inclusion in the digital repository, and having artifacts scored using the VALUE rubrics by certified VALUE Institute faculty scorers. Participating institutions receive data and reports from the tested VALUE nationwide database establishing the landscape of learning for contextualizing and ultimately benchmarking results. What do I do if interested? If your institution, program, state, system consortium – national or international – has an interest in participating in the VALUE Institute, please review the “Interest in VALUE Institute Participation” page, discuss the contents with colleagues, and send an email to valueinstitute@aacu.org to schedule an initial consultation. A VALUE Institute staff member will respond in 2-3 business days. Registration: October 15, 2019 – March 2, 2020 VALUE Institute Process
