Building the Internet of Everything (IoE) We are leading research efforts into building the Internet of Everything (IoE), connecting objects, people and everything in the physical world to digital information on the Internet. Ubiquitous computing is at the heart of our research where computers will increasingly dissapear into the fabric of life around us. Our research focus spans from building tiny computers such as smart dust to revolutionary applications such as anti-counterfieting, solving problems with security for tiny things, and helping older people live safely and independently. We are unique in that we are an interdisciplinary research lab with a research focus that predominately spans across computer science, engineering, and health and medical sciences. As part of the global Auto-ID Labs network, research results drive not only fundamental advances in RFID technology and applications but: Fundamental research into RFID (power harvesting, rectification, hybrid powering, security, sensor integration, passive sensing with RFID) Security for Internet of Things (low cost security for resource constrained devices such as RFID tags and wireless sensors) Hardware Security and Nano Security (Secure key storage, anti-counterfeting, nano security primities) Wearable Computing and Embedded Systems (building systems that can harvest power and run without batteries and can be seamlessly integrated into the fabric of life such as your clothing and the Internet of Everything) Sensing and Actuation in Smart Cities (unobtrusive technologies for sensing, actuation and service delivery to build resilient and smart cities) Human Activity Recognition (using machine learning approaches and using wearable and environmental sensors) Pervasive Interaction (exploring the possible interactions between people, pervasive technologies such as RFID and representations) Social Appliances (developing social "things" and merging the physical and human divide to realize and Internet of Things) but also new applications in areas such as: Smart Cities and Resilient Cities Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) for living independently Health Biomedical applications Anti-counterfeiting technology (e.g. preventing counterfeiting in pharmaceuticals) Conservation Biology and shaping of global standards in cooperation with with GS1(a not-for-profit, organisation that develops and maintains international standards).
