In an effort to reduce youth unemployment in San Jose, City of San José Mayor Sam Liccardo created the San José Works youth employment initiative in March of 2015. The program brings together community based organizations, businesses, non-profits, and City Departments and has provided job opportunities to over 1,200 youth. San Jose Works allows youth to gain work experience, succeed and deter involvement in gangs and crime throughout San José. In partnership with the City of San José, the work2future Foundation works collaboratively with the goal of increasing youth employment and expand access to job training citywide. Youth enrolled in the program receive work readiness training, financial services, access to job fairs, job leads and work experience opportunities. San José Works Program participants ages 14 to 29 years old can receive help to find a job through our partnerships with local employers. Participants will be assigned a Case Manager who guides them through the process, provides access to resources and helps participants achieve their goals. Youth will also have access to optional training workshops to help you create a resume, budget your money, and improve your chances for employment in the future. Youth participants will receive supportive services, if required, for transportation needs and appropriate work clothes. In addition to earning some cash this summer, participants will learn new job skills and create new relationships of both a personal and professional nature.
