founders message We believe that we all share in the responsibility of supporting and strengthening our communities. Through our foundation, Sunlight Giving, we are humbled to have the opportunity to contribute to the public good. Our team holds itself accountable to the trust invested in us by the communities we serve. With several years of grantmaking experience, we continue to listen and learn so that our grantmaking reflects the needs identified by the communities and supports the possibilities that can make a difference for young children living in poverty. Tegan and Brian Acton about the foundation Sunlight Giving is dedicated to supporting the basic services of low-income families with young children ages 0-5. The foundation supports organizations that provide food security, family support resources, housing stability, health care access, and safe spaces. It is primarily focused on 10 San Francisco Bay Area counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Merced, Monterey, San Benito, San Joaquin, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, and Stanislaus. The foundation also supports some statewide and national advocacy efforts on behalf of its program areas. Sunlight Giving is a family foundation established in 2014 by Tegan and Brian Acton following the sale of WhatsApp, a global messaging service, to Facebook. It is staffed through Pacific Foundation Services, which provides administrative, programmatic, and strategic support to the foundation. In addition to Sunlight Giving, the Actons established Acton Family Giving and Solidarity Giving.
