Nathan Leventhal has served as Chief of Staff to John Lindsay, Deputy Mayor to Ed Koch, and Transition Chairman for Mayors David Dinkins and Michael Bloomberg. He currently chairs Mayor Bloomberg’s Committee on Appointments. In the business world, Leventhal serves on the Boards, and is Chairman of the Audit Committees, of 16 equity and fixed income mutual funds managed by the Dreyfus Corporation, with a total asset value in excess of $20 billion. He is a Director and Chairman of the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee of Movado Group, Inc., which designs, manufactures and distributes Movado, Ebel, Concord, ESQ, Coach, Tommy Hilfiger, HUGO BOSS, Juicy Couture and LACOSTE watches worldwide, and operates Movado boutiques and company stores in the United States. Leventhal formerly was a partner in the law firm Poletti Freidin Prashker Feldman and Gartner. Other New York City governmental positions held include Fiscal Director of the Human Resources Administration, Commissioner of Rent and Housing Maintenance, Commissioner of Housing Preservation and Development, and Secretary of the New York City Charter Revision Commission. In Washington, D.C., Leventhal served as an attorney in the Office of the Air Force General Counsel, Assistant to the Executive Director of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and Chief Counsel to the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Administrative Practice and Procedure. In 1997, Leventhal was appointed by President Clinton, and confirmed by the U.S. Senate, to serve on the National Council on the Arts. In the not-for-profit sector, Leventhal served for 17 years as President of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, where he is now President Emeritus and Chairman of the Avery Fisher Artist Program. Leventhal received his B.A. in Public Affairs from Queens College and his J.D., cum laude, from Columbia Law School, where he was Editor-in-Chief of the Columbia Law Review.
