Susan C. Schwab is a professor at the University of Maryland and a Strategic Advisor to the law firm of Mayer Brown, LLP. She has served as Dean of the University of Maryland School of Public Policy and is past President of the University System of Maryland Foundation. Ambassador Schwab served as United States Trade Representative from 2006-09, and as Deputy USTR from 2005-06. As USTR, Ambassador Schwab concluded Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with Peru, Colombia, Panama and South Korea, helped to achieve congressional approval of Permanent Normal Trade Relations (PNTR) with Vietnam, and concluded the U.S. bilateral WTO accession agreement with Russia. Ambassador Schwab also served as Assistant Secretary of Commerce, and Director-General of the US & Foreign Commercial Service. In the private sector, she has been the Director of Corporate Business Development for Motorola, Inc. She has negotiated joint venture agreements in China and developed Asia strategy. She serves on the boards of Caterpillar, FedEx and Boeing. She is also on the board of advisors of Miller Buckfire and on the board of trustees of The Conference Board. She holds a B.A. from Williams College, a Master’s from Stanford University, and a Ph.D. from The George Washington University. She is a member of the Aspen Strategy Group.
