As a strategic government relations professional, Rich Wheland develops comprehensive government relations roadmaps that include everything from analyzing policy to lobbying appropriate stakeholders. For more than 11 years, Rich has provided political expertise to multiple industries – including global specialty chemicals – with a specialized focus in life sciences and pharmaceuticals issues. As Director of Federal Affairs for a multinational pharmaceutical manufacturer, Rich managed the company's Washington, D.C. operations and led the development and implementation of legislative strategies that affected the company and its subsidiaries. As an active lobbyist for a myriad of key healthcare and patent-related issues, he established and maintained strong bipartisan relationships on the Hill and served as a leading member of the industry trade association committees and coalitions of employers, manufacturers, insurers, and providers interested in promoting affordable pharmaceuticals for consumers. In addition to lobbying, Rich has provided strategic expertise on leveraging unique opportunities to further a cause. These include securing participation and developing testimony for congressional hearings, as well as enhancing employee engagement in political action committees. His experience in these two areas drove impressive success in the generic pharmaceuticals industry. Prior to his work in federal government relations, Rich served as a Legislative Director for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and has been actively involved in local political campaigns. Rich earned his Master's from Point Park University in 2001 and currently lives in Cranberry Township, Pa. with his wife, Angela, and two kids, Ian and Ainsley.
