Bob Butler serves as a Senior Advisor to The Chertoff Group. Mr. Butler’s career in information technology, intelligence and national security spans 32 years of both public and private sector experience. Previously, Mr. Butler served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Space and Cyber Policy from August 2009 to May 2010 and then became the Defense Department’s first Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Cyber Policy, from June 2010 to August 2011. In this role, Mr. Butler acted as the principal advisor to the Secretary of Defense and other Defense leaders on the development of cyber strategy and policy. He is a retired U.S. Air Force Colonel and a former member of the Defense Department’s Senior Executive Service. He has also been an Account Executive and a senior cyber strategist with Computer Sciences Corporation. He currently serves as the Vice President of Government Strategy for IO Data Centers. Mr. Butler earned a B.S. in Computer Information Systems from Manhattan College and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Maryland Robert H. Smith School of Business. He is a former RAND fellow and has served as a National Defense Fellow at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service. He has received a number of public service awards. Mr. Butler currently serves as a Special Government Expert to the Office of the Secretary of Defense and the Air Force Scientific Advisory Board. He is a consultant to a variety of other public and private sector organizations on cyber security. He was recently appointed as the Chairman of the Texas State Cyber Security, Education and Economic Development Council.
