In 1972, he founded Elite in Paris. After having positioned Elite as a leader in Europe, he took on the New York establishment in 1977 and revolutionized the industry by glamorizing the models’ image and turning them into businesswomen.
In April 2000, after twenty-five years leading the agency that dominated the modeling industry worldwide, Casablancas sold his equity in Elite, leaving an international agency network comprised of over 26 agencies. He retired in Key Biscayne, Florida, and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with his wife Aline and their five children. Surrounded by his loving family, he passed away in Rio de Janeiro on July 20, 2013. |
