This included managing the defence relationships with international partners, including developing policy advice, managing cooperation programs and providing strategic advice to Australian Defence Force commanders in the field. This role included deployment to Iraq for 6 months as the policy advisor to the Australian commanders in southern Iraq. Roles and Responsibilities • Develop Ministerial and Cabinet submissions regarding international policy. • Engage with and manage key international stakeholder relationships. • Develop and contribute to the Defence Cooperation Program. • Identify and manage policy risk in respect of current operations. Key Achievements • Supporting Defence’s policy response to the Israel/Lebanon crisis in 2006 • Coordinating development of Australia’s position on various UN Resolutions related to peacekeeping missions. • Serving as the Policy Advisor to Australian commanders in Southern Iraq (located in Iraq). • Coordinating the whole of government advice on strategic policy advice for Australia’s contribution to Afghanistan.
