Middle East position
In the meantime, yet another advisory board awaits. This one is based in Dubai, the headquarters of Sidara. Called Dar Group until last December, Sidara is a private company pretty much only known in Australia for owning 24 per cent of Worley, an $8 billion business that helped design the North West Shelf gas project.
Founded in Beirut by a group of engineering professors, Sidara has been an important player in the Middle East’s economic development for decades. Given most large construction contracts in the region are awarded by governments, ex-political leaders can be useful. But they have to accept being used as salesmen. |
