Notes 16 Sep 2019 · Dr Edmund Fordham, The Brexit Party's prospective parliamentary candidate for Bury St Edmunds A physicist and engineer has been announced as the Brexit Party's prospective parliamentary candidate for Bury St Edmunds. Dr Edmund Fordham will contest the constituency in the next general election. The 64-year-old has more than 30 years' experience in the energy industries and recently retired from his role as scientific advisor to an international company in the petroleum industry. Dr Fordham said: "The next election will concern the foundations of our democracy. "Only the Brexit Party is unambiguously committed to the 2016 people’s instruction, when the Bury St Edmunds constituency voted 54 per cent to leave." "The established parties have failed the country. "Constituency support for Tories and Labour collapsed in the European elections, managing just 12 per cent and five per cent respectively, with the Brexit Party on top at 39 per cent. "There can be no better place than Bury, the 'cradle of the law', to re-assert our constitutional values. "William Cobbett called Bury the 'nicest town in the world'. "I am committed to keeping it so, and not to forget rural interests, the villages, nor towns like Stowmarket. "Brexit Party policy includes abolition of high street business rates; broadband in all rural areas; and a £200 billion programme of “invest in the rest”, by cancelling HS2 and saving the £39bn EU divorce bill. "If elected, it will be an honour to represent our democratic values, and the constituency, at Westminster." Dr Fordham and his wife lived in Kedington for 10 years and rented a home in Bury St Edmunds where their children attended primary and middle schools. He currently lives in Fordham near Newmarket. Conservative MP Jo Churchill has represented Bury St Edmunds since 2015. MPs recently rejected Prime Minister Boris Johnson's call for an early general election. https://www.suffolknews.co.uk/bury-st-edmunds/news/brexit-party-names-its-bury-st-edmunds-prospective-parliamentary-candidate-9083051/ 11 November 2019 The Brexit Party's General Election candidates for Bury St Edmunds and West Suffolk say they are 'disappointed' at the decision not to contest the 317 seats won by the Conservatives in 2017. Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage has said he has 'decided to put country before party and not oppose Boris Johnson'. He said the party will 'target Labour and Remainer MPs' in the December 12 election. The Brexit Party's candidate for Bury St Edmunds was Dr Edmund Fordham. "We had a full 'road-show' of public meetings planned and were fully prepared to mount a serious campaign. "I do understand however where Nigel Farage is coming from: the prevention of another hung Parliament with Corbyn in Downing Street and a Remain alliance holding the balance of power." "The Brexit Party has put country before party. We look for the Tories to act similarly." https://www.suffolknews.co.uk/bury-st-edmunds/news/disappointment-at-brexit-partys-election-decision-to-withdraw-from-conservative-seats-9089089/
