The Grand Valley Power, in Grand Junction, and the Yampa Valley Electric Association, serving Steamboat Springs, Craig and other parts of northwest Colorado, have both chosen to buy power from Denver-based Guzman Energy — an independent power provider — once their power-supply agreements with Xcel Energy expire in five years.
"After navigating several years of volatile wholesale energy prices, we are pleased to partner with Guzman," said Tom Walch, CEO of Grand Valley Power, in a statement issued about the utility’s June 1 decision. "Beginning in 2028, the new partnership will ensure that we deliver reliable and affordable electricity at fixed wholesale rates, stabilizing the cost of purchased power for our members." |
