I am an applied research leader and academic who has achieved substantial food security outcomes in developing countries working within the food-water-energy nexus. In many countries where I work, fish are an important source of animal protein, calcium and hard income. Water is needed for life, but also provides an opportunity to grow crops using irrigation, and by generating hydropower. The food and energy needs of developing countries is growing; necessitating expanded energy grids and irrigation systems. My collaborative high-impact research focuses on the development and application of innovative technology, in the field of ecohydrology, to provide food security through increased fisheries production. Specifically, my work focuses on irrigation and hydropower sustainability; applying innovation to ensure river communities can have food, water and energy. My work is multi-disciplinary; requiring collaboration with engineers, functional ecologists and water professionals.
