Matthew J. Weiss
MATTHEW J. WEISS is the Paul K. Neumann Professor of Pancreatic Cancer. Dr. Matthew Weiss joined the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine as Assistant Professor of Surgery in 2012. He earned his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College and performed oncology research at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. He trained in general surgery at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and completed a research fellowship at the Massachusetts General Hospital in immunology. He completed clinical fellowships at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in both surgical oncology and hepato-pancreatobiliary surgery. Dr. Weiss is board-certified in general surgery and dual fellowship-trained in both complex surgical oncology and hepatopancreatobiliary (liver, pancreas and bile ducts) surgery.
Dr. Weiss specializes in surgery for pancreatic and liver cancer, as well as benign hepatopancreatobiliary diseases, including cystic lesions of the pancreas. In addition to performing the Whipple procedure, he has particular expertise in minimally invasive pancreatic resections. Dr. Weiss’s clinical interests also include colorectal metastases to the liver, hepatocellular carcinomas, intrahepatic cholangiocarcinomas, bile duct cancers (Klatskin tumors), intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms of the pancreas, neuroendocrine tumors, and gallbladder cancers.
Dr. Weiss’ research interests include examining the outcomes following the utilization of minimally invasive and robotic surgery in pancreatic and liver surgery. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the Society of Surgical Oncology, and the American Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association. |
