Founder Hasso Plattner
The Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI) is unique in the German university landscape. Academically structured as the independent Faculty of Digital Engineering at the University of Potsdam, HPI unites excellent research and teaching with the advantages of a privately financed institute and a tuition-free study program.
Studying at the Hasso Plattner Institute
The HPI in Potsdam is the only university faculty in Germany where a degree program in "IT Systems Engineering" is completely and privately financed.
HPI offers the innovation-oriented and practically-based studies in "IT-Systems Engineering" with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree and master degrees in Digital Health, Data Engineering and Cybersecurity. In addition, HPI offers a supplemental study program in the innovation method of Design Thinking.
The Hasso Plattner Institute Today and in the Future
The HPI is a world-class educational provider. The institute already offers an optimal study and work environment and cooperates very closely with the business community. The HPI also maintains strong international contacts, for example with Stanford University, the American ivy league university in Palo Alto, California.
HPI focuses on an ideal student-teacher ratio. In close cooperation, professors, senior researchers, lecturers and academic staff members train highly talented young people in small Bachelor's and Master's programs.

Design Thinking at the HPI
The HPI School of Design Thinking, Europe’s first innovation school, offers supplementary programs in Design Thinking for 240 students from all kinds of disciplines.
Design Thinking is a human-centered, team-based approach to developing innovative solutions for complex problems. At the HPI, Design Thinking is applied in numerous projects.
Founder Hasso Plattner
The institute is financed by the founder Prof. Hasso Plattner. Plattner is co-founder and chairman of the supervisory board of the software group SAP. Germany's most important private sponsor of science and art thus provides a unique university education in IT systems engineering.
Prof. Hasso Plattner is not only the founder of HPI, but he also heads the department "Enterprise Platform and Integration Concepts" where he is active in research and teaching.

Organization
The Hasso Plattner Institute has the status of a non-profit limited liability company. It was founded in October 1998 as a public-private partnership with the state of Brandenburg.
