Goods Core funders ClimateWorks’ core funders — The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, KR Foundation, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the Oak Foundation, and The David and Lucile Packard Foundation — are committed to addressing the challenge of global climate change through strategic grant-making. They deeply value collective action and funder collaboration, and — in addition to supporting programs directly — support the services ClimateWorks provides to the philanthropic community. When foundations work together, their potential for impact is exponentially greater. When foundations work together, their potential for impact is much greater. THE WILLIAM AND FLORA HEWLETT FOUNDATION The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation helps people build measurably better lives, concentrating its resources on activities in education, the environment, global development and population, performing arts, and philanthropy, as well as grants to support disadvantaged communities in the San Francisco Bay Area. The Hewlett Foundation’s environment program makes grants to conserve the Western United States and Canada, address climate change, ensure that the energy supply is clean and consumption is efficient, and address environmental issues that disproportionally affect disadvantaged communities in the San Francisco Bay Area. A full list of the Hewlett Foundation’s grants can be found in its online grants database. KR FOUNDATION KR Foundation believes that humanity faces unprecedented and rising global environmental risks. Excessive use of fossil fuels, and unsustainable production and consumption patterns pose urgent challenges such as climate change and environmental degradation. KR Foundation’s mission is to help provide answers to, stimulate mind shifts about, and encourage action on, the long-term challenges posed by current and future generations living on a planet with finite resources, fragile ecosystems, and climate change. THE JOHN D. AND CATHERINE T. MACARTHUR FOUNDATION The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation supports creative people and effective institutions committed to building a more just, verdant, and peaceful world. In addition to selecting the MacArthur Fellows, the Foundation works to defend human rights, advance global conservation and security, make cities better places, and understand how technology is affecting children and society. MacArthur is one of the nation’s largest independent foundations. Through the support it provides, the Foundation fosters the development of knowledge, nurtures individual creativity, strengthens institutions, helps improve public policy, and provides information to the public, primarily through support for public interest media. OAK FOUNDATION As an organization committed to addressing issues of global, social, and environmental concern, particularly those that have a major impact on the lives of the disadvantaged, the Oak Foundation is committed to protecting our planet and those most affected by climate change. The Foundation’s two overarching climate goals are that global greenhouse gas emissions peak by 2020; and that greenhouse gas emissions from the power and transportation sectors are reduced by 2030 to levels consistent with the latest scientific recommendations for climate stabilization. THE DAVID AND LUCILE PACKARD FOUNDATION The Packard Foundation believes that climate change is the defining issue of our day. It is a global problem that demands global action, while we still have time. Rooted in the values of its founders, David and Lucile Packard, the Foundation is dedicated to improving the lives of children and families, and protecting the earth’s natural systems for future generations. That’s why the Foundation sees climate change as an unprecedented threat, with the potential to uniquely undermine everything else it cares about. Through the Packard Foundation’s support for ClimateWorks, it is advancing a coordinated philanthropic response to mitigate the threats posed by dangerous climate change. Portfolio funders ClimateWorks receives support for specific programs from the Margaret A. Cargill Foundation, the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation, the Ford Foundation, The Grantham Foundation for the Protection of the Environment, and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation.
