Why I wanted to join the Participatory City Global Advisory We see that around the world, citizens are helping to define problems, create solutions and deliver new types of services to improve urban life. Participatory City will explore the value of these efforts at scale, taking on the challenging but critical task of measuring the impact of mass participation. It’s fantastic to be involved in such an ambitious project. A little bit about my background I work on the Government Innovation Programs at Bloomberg Philanthropies, the private foundation of Michael R. Bloomberg. We provide grants and technical assistance to support public leadership, encourage innovation, and help cities harness the power of data and evidence to improve decision making. I’m based in London. Prior to joining Bloomberg Philanthropies, I served as CEO of the Office of Innovation at the New York City Department of Education, the largest school district in the United States. I led the iZone, an incubation lab of 300 schools committed to testing innovative learning models. Previously, I led the International Practice at the Young Foundation, a London based center for social innovation. I started my career as a primary school teacher with Teach for America.
