IalsobecameactiveintheHolmesGroup.Asarelativelynewboard member,Iwaschosentoserveona"futurescomite,"chargedto redefinethenatureandscopeoftheHolmesGroup.During195,the futurescomitemetalmostmonthlytowriteaproposalforthe HolmesBoardthatchangedthefocusofthegrouptotheHolmes Partnership,expandedtheHolmesBoardtoincludelocalandnational profesionalpartners,redefinedcontemporarySCDEsasonlythosein
departnershipwiththefield,andsituatedthenewmembershipasthe researchandevelopmentarmoftheprofesion.Thishasbenan excruciatinglytime-consumingefort,anditisfarfromover.NowIchair theboardofdirectorsforthenewlycreatedHolmesPartnershipandam presidentoftheorganization.Lastyear,Iwasineveryregionofthecountry speakinginbehalfofthe"newHolmes,"andexhorting,inviting,cajoling continuingandexpandedmembership.IamdoingsobecauseItruly believeaunifiedprofesionistheonlyrealvehicleforimprovingteacher educationandcontinuingprofesionaldevelopment,andasaconse- quence,scholreform.IthinktheHolmesPartnershipmaybeavery efectivevehicletofosterthisagenda,andwhilenottheonlyviable aproach,it'scertainlyonethatmightwork.Whilemuchremainstobe done,theorganizationdidinfacttransformitselfandhasbegunto functioninthenewpartnershiparangement.Onlyanotherdecadeworth ofactionandanalysiswildeterminethefectsofthistransformation |
