Hirokazu Yoshikawa is the Courtney Sale Ross university professor of globalization and education at the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development, New York University, and codirector of the Institute on Globalization and Education in Metropolitan Settings. Yoshikawa is a community and developmental psychologist who researches the effects of public policies and programs related to immigration, early childhood, and poverty reduction on children’s development. He has also conducted research on culture and sexuality in HIV/AIDS risk and prevention. Yoshikawa’s areas of interest include the United States and low- and middle-income countries. He has served on various boards including the DHHS Advisory Committee on Head Start Research and Evaluation for the Clinton and Obama administrations. In 2011, he was nominated by President Obama and confirmed by the Senate as a member of the National Board for Education Sciences. He is currently the leading author of the early childhood development contribution to the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (a core paper submitted to the UN Committee working on post-2015 development goals).
