9Needs is using blockchain technology to improve Early Childhood Development (ECD) services in South Africa and completed its investment period with the Fund in February 2018.
Amply has been able to develop a mobile app that allows schools to record attendance of students. Over the investment duration of the Fund and through ongoing development of the Amply application, Trustlab released major software updates that have been tested in daily use, across 72 ECD facilities. This has recorded more than 52,000 pre-school attendance records.
In addition, Trustlab is currently finalizing a service contract to provide the Amply software platform to run the first government-sponsored Social Impact Bond for ECD in the Western Cape province in South Africa.
Trustlab is also conducting their due diligence on being a service provider to South Africa's National Department for Social Development, to provide the Amply platform for managing the national government early learning subsidy to around 800,000 children for pre-school attendance.
Trustlab has also succeeded in securing a revenue-generating contract to customise the Amply applications for the Smartstart ECD Social Franchise and to provide this platform as a service to 3,000 community-based agents. The ambition of Smartstart is to grow this agent network to 100,000 agents by 2020.
