In September 2013, the Workshop School opened as a School District of Philadelphia project-based public high school. The Workshop School is located in West Philadelphia and recruits students from neighborhood middle and K-8 schools.
The Workshop School expanded to a full high school after a successful two-year pilot program, the Sustainability Workshop, which was located The Navy Yard in South Philadelphia. The mission of the Workshop is to unleash the creative and intellectual potential of young people to solve the world’s toughest problems.
The Workshop’s project-based approach to education grew out of the work of the West Philly Hybrid (EVX) Team, an after-school program that builds and competes with alternative fuel vehicles, and the collaboration of a group of innovative Philadelphia educators. Simon Hauger, the EVX Team founder and director is a co-founder of the Workshop.
I continue to support the Workshop through my work with the Philadelphia’s Graduation Coach Campaign and the Occupational Advisory Board of the Automotive Programs at the Workshop. I continue fundraising and activities for the EVX Team and work to maintain and develop external partnerships. I also serve as Chair of the Board of Project Based Learning, Inc., the 501 (c) (3) organization that supports the Workshop School and the EVX Team. |
