David Robinson is the youngest child of Jackie and Rachel Robinson. Growing up during the African-American Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s, and in the Robinson home where such issues were at the core of everyday life, Robinson has spent the last quarter century involved in the development of racial equality. As a founding member and president of United Harlem Growth, Inc., Robinson spent nine years in community development and self-help housing work in the Harlem community of New York. Since 1984, Robinson has been a resident in Tanzania, East Africa involved in international economic development as President of the Higher Ground Development Corporation and a Coffee Farmer in the southern highlands of Tanzania. Robinson has ten children and is married to the former Miss Ruti Mpunda from central Tanzania. He and his family live on their coffee farm called Sweet Unity Farms and help manage a cooperative of 300 small scale coffee farmers bearing the same name.
