Kirk is a cum laude graduate of the Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass., and an alumnus of Williams College and of the Harvard School of Business. He was ssociated with the New York investment banking firm of Dillon, Read & Co., Inc. and become a managing partner in 1979. He married Agnes Clay Kenan in 1969.
