Rene M. Kern is a Managing Director at General Atlantic, a global growth equity investment firm, which he joined in 1996. Mr. Kern is involved in the development of the Firm's investment activities in the Financial Services sector. He is also active in Latin America, with a particular focus on Brazil. Between 1996 and 2002, Mr. Kern headed the Firm's European activities, leading several new investments and building a team of senior professionals and advisors. He is currently a Director of BM&F Bovespa S.A., Getco LLC, RiskMetrics Group and WagnerStibbe. He is the Chairman of General Atlantic's Portfolio Committee, as well as a member of the firm's Executive and Investment Committees. Mr. Kern joined General Atlantic after six years with Morgan Stanley in New York and London, where he was a Vice President in the Investment Banking Division. Prior to Morgan Stanley, Mr. Kern was a management consultant with Bain & Company in Boston, MA. Mr. Kern is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, where he obtained an MBA from the Wharton School and an MA from the School of Arts and Sciences. He is a fellow of the Lauder Institute, and currently serves on Lauder's Advisory Council. He received his Bachelor's of Science degree from the University of California, Berkeley. Mr. Kern currently serves on U.C. Berkeley's Metro New York Committee.
