Walt Sanders, of counsel in the Washington office, was co-emcee with Sue Palka of WTTG Fox News (Washington, D.C.), at the 25th Anniversary of Neurofibromatosis, Inc., Mid-Atlantic. Walt and Richard Lazarus, of counsel in the Washington office, invited guests from the biotechnology industry, Georgetown University Department of pediatric neurology, Capitol Hill and the Food and Drug Administration, and the embassy of Australia to hear keynote speaker Dr. Hiroshi Maruta, who is a scientist at the University of Melbourne, give a presentation about breakthroughs in biotechnology and cancer research. Randy Stayin, Karen McGee, Walt Sanders, and Teresa Jakubowski, attorneys in the Washington office, with the help of Indianapolis office attorneys Robert Grand and Erin Bohannon, accomplished a significant victory for the National Candle Association in the 4th Administrative Review of the Antidumping Order against Petroleum Wax Candles from the People's Republic of China. In its Final Determination, the Department of Commerce ("Commerce") found a 95.95% dumping margin for all Chinese exporters. Furthermore, the new China-wide rate will be 95.95%, and Customs will be requiring a duty deposit in that amount as soon as Commerce issues its instructions.Dumped candles from China have seriously injured the domestic candle industry resulting in plant closures, lost sales and profits, and significant job layoffs and losses. States such as Ohio, Illinois, Arkansas, California, and Texas were hit hard by the Chinese candle producers' dumping practices....
